  • Book Sales – Capitola Branch @ Capitola Mall – Our storefront Book Sale is at the Capitola Mall again this month! Lots of used books, CDs & DVDs! Where: Capitola Mall, next to Starbucks, just inside the mall’s main entrance. Proceeds benefit the Capitola Branch Library, and held by the Friends of the Capitol Branch Library.

  • Adult Crafts @ Felton Branch (2pm – 4:30pm) – Every Sunday.

July 3rd

  • Wild Child Adventures: Bubbles! @ La Selva Beach Branch (10:30am – 11:30am) – Children of all ages have always been fascinated with bubbles! So what is it about bubbles that makes them so intriguing? Is it their delicate nature, their beautiful colors, or the way they float up into the sky? Take a journey with Wild Child Adventures, as we explore the fun and science that are bubbles!

July 7th

  • Woodburning Workshop @ Scotts Valley Branch (10am – 12pm) – What a lovely way to burn! Join pyrography artist Kelley Badgley for a two-hour beginner’s class on the art of woodburning. Supplies will be provided. Limit 12 participants. Email hookerj@santacruzpl.org to register (required).

  • Friends of SCPL Summer Book Sale @ Downtown Branch (1pm – 4pm) – The Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries is having a Summer Book Sale on July 7th and 8th starting at 1pm and going till 4pm. There will be Cookbooks, Do-it-Yourself, Crafts and Fiction Books. Proceeds benefiting your Santa Cruz Public Libraries. This will be held at the Downtown Library in the upstairs meeting room.

  • Dome on the Go @ La Selva Beach Branch (2 Programs: 12pm & 2pm) – With a modern digital projector and inflatable dome, our portable planetarium system can transform an ordinary room into an immersive space where extraordinary learning can occur.   • Friends Monthly Meeting @ Scotts Valley Branch  (6:30pm – 7:30pm) – The Scotts Valley Friends meet on the 2nd Wednesday every month in the Library Fireside Room. If you are interested in helping your local Scotts Valley Library, come to the meeting and learn how you can make a difference in your community. All are welcome.

July 12th

  • Author Talk: Santa Cruz Noir @ Aptos Branch (6pm – 7:30pm) – Brooklyn. Chicago. New Orleans: all cities with a shady history. Local author Susie Bright casts a light on the shadows of Santa Cruz with the newest installment of the Akashic Press “Noir” Series with Santa Cruz Noir. Listen to some of the contributing authors talk about their stories, research, and what it means to write a true noir story. Authors will sign copies of their books after the event. Also featuring author Peggy Townsend.

July 13th

  • The MAKE Lab @ Scotts Valley Branch (10am – 5pm) – Santa Cruz Public Libraries’ very own makerspace—The MAKE Lab—opens for business in 2018! This makerspace will offer a variety of tools for STEAM-based projects including: 3D printers, vinyl cutter, woodburning tool, soldering tool, pinback button machine, book binding machine, and a virtual reality-based sculpting and painting program. Tools are limited in quantity and will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Kids 13 and under will need parental permission for some of the tools. Staff will be available to help answer questions and train patrons on more difficult tools. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Scotts Valley Library.

  • Munching with Mozart @ Downtown Branch (12:10 – 12:50pm) – A monthly series of free noon-time concerts at the Downtown Branch meeting room, feel free to bring your quiet lunch! 

July 21st

  • Book Sale @ Aptos Branch (10am – 3pm) – Come browse a wide ranging collection from fiction and non-fiction to children’s books, audio books to CDs. Held on the 3rd Saturday of each month, from January through October.

July 22nd

  • Author Talk @ Downtown Branch (1:30pm – 3pm) – Annette McGivney, the author of “Pure Land: A True Story of Three Lives, Three Cultures and the Search for Heaven on Earth”. Part true crime and part memoir, Pure Land tells the story of the most brutal murder ever recorded in Grand Canyon’s history. It forges a connection between two women in search of their true nature, who found transcendence in the West’s most spectacular landscapes. It is also a tale of how child abuse leads to violence and destroys lives. And it is, ultimately, a story of healing. Author Annette McGivney is the longtime Southwest Editor for Backpacker magazine and a Journalism professor at Northern Arizona University. Books will be available for sale by the Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries.

July 25th

  • The Bubble Lady! @ Scotts Valley Branch (2pm – 3pm) – This fabulous show really pops! It’s crazy, zany, super silly and tons of fun. Parents and children alike will be wowed as we follow “The Bubble Lady” to “Bubble Land” and participate in incredible musically enhanced bubble adventures.

  • Genre Book Discussion Club @ Scotts Valley Branch (7pm – 8:30pm) – Meets in the Fireside Room on the last Thursday of the month at the Scotts Valley Library. The group discusses books from a different genre each month. Sponsored by the Scotts Valley Friends of the Library.

  • Festival of the Book! @ Harvey West Park (1pm – 4pm) –  Crafts! Music! Magic! Bubbles! Come and spend a fun afternoon at Harvey West Park with your favorite Librarians to close out Summer Reading 2018! And a chance for kids to shop our FSCPL Festival Bookstore! All participants in the Libraries Festival of the Book receive 1 free book at the Kids Only Book Sale.  Harvey West Park is located at: 326 Evergreen St, Santa Cruz, CA 95060
